Waddesdon Manor - National Trust GOLD Coach

Waddesdon Manor - National Trust GOLD Coach

This renaissance-style chateau was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. The 45 rooms on view combine the highest quality French furniture and decorative arts from the 18th century.

Waddesdon Manor, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

Christmas is always a special time at Waddesdon and 2016 is no exception. Both the interior of the house and the grounds will be uniquely decorated. Transformed, with light displays and an immersive art installation by light artist Bruce Munro. A four-week long Christmas Fair of food and gifts will take up residence on the Parterre. While the Coach House Gallery will house an intricately detailed gingerbread Waddesdon Manor as well as a Christmas shop.

Interiors of the house will be transformed with spectacular Christmas decorations. This year's theme for inside the house is magical materials from the earth and sea. The decorations are inspired by the rare, exotic and beautiful materials - glass, porcelain, precious metals and minerals - of Waddesdon's collections.

The Manor's ornate façade will be illuminated from dusk and every 15 minutes the front of the house will be bathed in a sound and light show entitled 'Dazzle@Waddesdon', created by Woodroffe Bassett Design. The 574 bottles in each of the giant candlestick sculptures, Lafite by Joana Vasconcelos, will be illuminated from the inside and decorated trees create a seasonal welcome in front of the house.

Four generations of the Rothschild family have shaped and enhanced this house. This renaissance-style château was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to display his outstanding collection of art treasures and to entertain the fashionable world. The 45 rooms on view combine the highest quality French furniture and decorative arts from the 18th century with superb English portraits and Dutch Old Masters. The Victorian garden is considered one of the finest in Britain with its parterre, seasonal displays, fountains and statuary. At its heart lies the aviary, stocked with species once part of Baron Ferdinand's collection. Visit the new contemporary art gallery in the Coach House at the Stables.

One hundred and thirty years ago this house and its setting were created to delight and surprise the small circle of Baron Ferdinand's friends. More than 300,000 visitors a year now come to Waddesdon to appreciate the exceptional art collections.
