Picton Castle and Gardens near Tenby

Pembrokeshire's Finest Stately Home has been the historic home of the Philipps' family who are direct descendents of Sir John Wogan who built the Castle over 850 years ago.

Picton Castle is a most unusual ancient building being in design half fortified manor house and half fully developed medieval castle. From the outside with its four symmetrically spaced half round towers and gatehouse entrance flanked by two narrower towers it looks like a miniature version of a great Edwardian Castle such as Conwy in North Wales. However as soon as one enters inside it is revealed not to have an inner courtyard and keep but rather a series of finely planned rooms typical of the grand country house that it is. There is no other building quite like it in Britain.

Awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for three years running  and situated within the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Picton’s enchanting 13th century Castle is surrounded by a spectacular 40 acre RHS Partner Garden full of surprises for all the family.

Explore the Castle’s rich history, discover our rare trees and plant collections from around the world and enjoy the  magnificent Rhododendrons, shady woodlands, an exotic jungle garden and colourful walled garden alongside living willow dens, family trails and an engaging adventure playground. The wildlife is abundant and there’s plenty of space to run or simply relax on one of our many garden seats to enjoy the tranquility and take in the views.

Boasting one of the best plant collections in Wales, including an important collection of conifers, roses, medicinal herbs and Rhododendruns, the Estate is also historically and horticulturally important. Recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society, the gardens are now part of their Partner Gardens access scheme.

When Pembroke’s small but unique Museum of the Home closed its doors to the public, it’s entire collection was re-housed at Picton. This fascinating collection can be seen in the old Butler’s Pantry area and can be seen by visitors when joining a guided tour of the Castle.

A world-class treasury of vintage and antique lawnmowers has found a permanent home, here at Picton Castle & Gardens. Dating from the early part of the 19th Century through to more recent times, the 85 exhibits, many of which are still in full working order, were originally collected and preserved as a tribute to British engineering by Sussex stockbroker David Lumsden.

The Courtyard Gallery is available for exhibiting artwork, photographs and crafts. We try to encompass a very wide range of artists.

Maria’s Courtyard Restaurant at Picton Castle is the ideal place for a tasty lunchtime or afternoon indulgence. The Restaurant, Shop and Deli is open all year round.
