Harrogate, Yorkshire Dales National Park

Harrogate, Yorkshire Dales National Park

New tour to Harrogate including a visit to Skipton and a trip on the Bolton and Abbey Railway.

Sunday

We depart and head to Yorkshire
arriving late afternoon at our hotel for the next 4
nights stay with dinner, bed and breakfast.

Monday

We start with a visit to the Royal Pump
Rooms Museum to find out why Charles Dickens
said that ‘Harrogate is the queerest place with
the strangest people in it, leading the oddest
lives’. Then it’s on to Embsay where we take a
round trip on the Bolton and Abbey Railway
steam train through picturesque Yorkshire Dales
scenery. After this we ride through the Dales to
the magical little market town of Hawes,
England’s highest. It is also home to world
famous Wensleydale cheese and we visit the
factory and watch some of the cheese being
made.

Tuesday

Our day begins with a drive to Skipton,
‘Gateway to the Dales’. The attractive high street
leads up to the church, behind which you see the
impressive 900 year old castle and Skipton
Woods. Skipton Castle is one of the most
complete and best preserved medieval castles in
England. Skipton’s famous market has recently
been voted UK’s ‘Best Small Outdoor Market
2017’. We also take a trip on the Skipton Canal
with a rib-tickling commentary by Dave Spikey
with tea and a biscuit included. Our final visit
today is to Pateley Bridge where we visit the
Nidderdale Museum.

Wednesday

We can explore Harrogate today.
With huge open spaces and broad tree-lined
boulevards, antique shops and shopping malls,
elegant buildings, abundant greenery, flowers
and plants, it is little wonder that the town is a
frequent winner of Britain in Bloom awards.
Harrogate also boasts the world famous Betty’s
Tearooms, founded in 1919 by a Swiss
confectioner, and Farrar’s of Harrogate,
established in 1840 and best known for its
Original Harrogate Toffee – the favourite sweetie
of the late Queen Mother.

Thursday

After breakfast we leave and begin
our homeward journey.
