Coventry Cathedral

Where city life meets country life and so much more in-between...

Coventry Cathedral - St Michael and the Ruins. St Michael’s Spire stands majestically in the heart of Coventry city centre. Forming part of the Old Cathedral and its magnificent ruins, the spire is a lasting reminder of the Blitz of November 14 1940. The building remains one of the most important international symbols of peace and reconciliation in the world, and is one of the city’s three remaining spires.

Celebrated as the UK’s favourite 20th century building, Coventry Cathedral is known all over the world as a beautiful and unique venue. Designed by architect Sir Basil Spence following the bombing of the city in 1940 it was opened in 1962, and contains some of the finest examples of 1950’s and 60’s art and architecture in the country.

Maintaining this historic site costs hundreds of thousands of pounds each year – yet we receive no funding from the state. In order to keep the Cathedral open we need therefore to charge visitors for admission to the New Cathedral. Charges apply.
